What is a Shopify theme detector?
A Shopify theme detector is a tool designed to identify the theme a particular Shopify store is using. In other words, it’s like a detective that uncovers the design and functionality elements of a website.
These detectors analyze the code and structure of a website to determine the theme used. This information can be valuable for several reasons, including benchmarking, inspiration, and competitive analysis.
How to know what theme a Shopify store is using?
There are actually a handful of ways to go about this. In this section today, however, we’ll go over the 3 easiest, most common methods. They are:
Method 1: Use a Shopify theme finder
The easiest way to do this is by using a theme detector. Here, we’ve provided you with the perfect tool to identify any Shopify theme in mere seconds. All you have to do is to follow 2 simple steps:
- Step 1: Copy the URL of the store you’d like to search
- Step 2: Paste the link in the box below and wait for the result
Method 2: Install a Shopify theme detector extension
If you prefer using Chrome extensions, you can install a tool called the Shopify Theme Detector Chrome extension instead. This handy extension not only provides you with information about the theme you’re using, but also whether the theme is available on the Shopify theme store. Not to mention, it can also give you a direct link to the theme.
Method 3: Manually detect the theme
Another way to tell the Shopify theme used is to check the page source or inspect the page. This does require more time and effort. However, you can do it by adhering to the following guidelines.
Option 1: View page source
- Step 1: Go to your chosen Shopify store.
- Step 2: Press Ctrl + U or Cmd + Opt + U to be redirected to the page source.
- Step 3: Quickly find the theme name by using Ctrl + F and entering “Shopify.theme” in the search box.
- Step 4: Find the theme ID in the code listing. Then, you can look up the theme ID to find out the theme.
As in the picture below, the theme store id is 1434. When you look it up in the search bar, you’ll know it is the Taste theme, which also means it is available on your theme store.
Note: If you see “null” instead of a number, then the store theme being used is not created by Shopify. It is likely that it is customized and will not be available for download on your online store.
Option 2: Inspect the page
Similar to viewing the page source, inspecting the page gives you information about the Shopify theme name, unfortunately, they’re also code. Nonetheless, you don’t have to worry because you will find out which Shopify theme in just 4 steps.
- Step 1: Go to the Shopify store that you want to know its theme.
- Step 2: Click the right mouse button and select Inspect to open the tab.
- Step 3: Quickly find the theme name by using Ctrl + F shortcut and entering “Shopify.theme” in the search box.
